Wplus9 Meets Rabbit Hole Designs – Waste Not, Want Not

I’ve got another fun company combo for you today! I’ve been eyeing the Rabbit Hole Designs for a bit now and have recently gotten the chance to know MaryAnne, the owner of this fantastic company. You may be familiar with the Cottontail Embossing Powder Tool (which I can not say enough good things about), but she also has some other amazing products! If you love whimsy, you’ll love her stamps. This is very different from my own illustration style, so I was excited to play with the Blooming Anemone stamp set when she sent it me.

I was all about the large swag of anemones in this set! It lends itself well to creating a wreath or a corner, but I wanted to use it a bit differently. I wanted to create an all over background. Since the image is larger, I was able to stamp, color, and die cut the image twice and have more than enough to cover an entire card front.

I stamped the image twice in Memento Tuxedo Black ink and colored the images with Copic markers. I used 2-3 colors for each image and did a very simple coloring technique. For the most part, I started with a bit of the darker color in the areas where the “shadows” would be, and then used the lighter color to blend it out into the rest of the area. If I needed to go a bit darker, I grabbed a darker marker. If there was a too wide of a gap between my first two color choices, I grabbed something in between to soften the blend a bit. You can see in the close-ups, I didn’t even worry about perfect blending. Easy. I paid no attention to light source and such as I just wanted some bright easily colored images.

I put the colored images aside and started on the sentiment. I used the label from Geo Foliage by Spellbinders. I died cut the smaller of the two and stamped “Thinking of You” from the Thinking of You stamp set by Wplus9 in Black PURE Color dye ink. I stamped and colored two of one of the leaf images in the Blooming Anemone stamp set and adhered them with foam tape at the top and bottom of the sentiment. This was perfect for filling in the blank space on the label.

I needed the label for this next step. As I mentioned earlier, I wanted to create an all over background with my colored images and knew that the label would be covering a large portion of the florals. I die cut the floral arrangements using the coordinating die, and placed one at the top and the other at the bottom of a 4 x 5 1/4″ panel. I then lightly marked with a pencil where the label would be. I then used scissors to cut off the portions that would be hidden under the label and arranged them on either side of the panel. Worked perfectly!

After adhering everything, I trimmed away any excess that was hanging over the edges of the panel and adhered the panel to a standard A2 card base. I adhered the sentiment to the center of my card using foam tape and finished it off with a mix of sequins and gems from The Rabbit Hole Designs that were sent with order.
