Wplus9 Meets Spellbinders – Hot Foiled Florals

Well, I did it. I took the plunge. I caved and jumped on the hot foil bandwagon. And I have ZERO regrets! Now, I won’t lie, there is a learning curve, and I wasted a bit of foil. But luckily the Glimmer Hot Foil System from Spellbinders comes with two rolls. LOL Seriously though, the results are STUNNING. And thanks to the letterpress detail, there really isn’t any way to “hack” or truly duplicate the results.

Now, my results on today’s card weren’t flawless, but like I said, there is a learning curve. I had to experiment with a couple of papers and plate combinations for said papers. But I’ve gotten it down now and I didn’t think these first pieces were unusable. And to be fair, this was my very first time using it. By the way, I did it LIVE on Facebook. Hey, ain’t no shame in my game. LOL

Isn’t she lovely? I decided to pair the florals from our Thinking of You stamp set with the Geo Foliage and Splatter Sentiments Hot Foil Plate and Die Sets from Spellbinders. As always, you can find all of the supplies linked at the bottom of this post.I stamped a couple of floral bouquets using Wplus9 PURE Color dye inks and fussy cut them out. I created a large, a medium, and a small sized bouquet. This is my go to method when adding multiple flower clusters to a design. This stamp set is still one of my all time favorite sets.

I used the large frame from Geo Foliage and cut it out using the matching die. I used Neenah 80 lb. Super Smooth Classic Crest Cover cardstock in Solar White. This is the paper that worked the best for me. I was also using a brand new Platinum 6 die cutting machine, so the pressure is intense. I personally had some issues with over foiling when using the standard recommended sandwich with anything thicker. This may be because my Platinum is brand new and hasn’t lost any pressure.

For the sentiment, I used the “Thanks” and “for your friendship” from Splatter Sentiments. That font! Amazing. You can see I had an issue with under foiling on the sub sentiment. After some troubleshooting, I figured out that it is best to but long skinny plates through the die cutting machine vertically. This allows the rollers to move over the plate more evenly and for an extended amount of time.

For my background, I used our Stitched Ironworks Background Die – another of my personal favorites. I arranged the florals around my sentiment and then add a few sequins and gems. I just love everything about this card! And I cannot wait to foil all.the.things. If you haven’t jumped on the bandwagon just yet, but have been tempted, I say go for it! But I highly recommend picking up a Tomboy MONO Sand Eraser while you’re at it. It’s perfect for removing any unwanted over foiling.

I hope that you enjoyed today’s card, thanks for stopping in!
