Using Large Dies on Slimline Cards
Hello Friends! I’ve got a stunner for you today featuring the Honey Bee Stamps Lovely Layering Dies. There is a whole series of them, and if you haven’t checked them out yet, I highly advise that you do. They are amazing! The scale on these is quite large, especially for A2 card makers. This can be intimidating at first glance, but don’t let their large size fool you. The larger pieces make it super easy to build the florals and less finicky than one might imagine. And, it makes filling a card front super easy!
I had not seen many cards combining the different flowers from this series yet. I just knew I wanted to create a large, show stopping bouquet with them!
Y’all! How gorgeous is that? I used the Tulips, Hydrangeas, and the Greenery sets for this card. (all supplies are linked below) There are several ways you can choose to add color to these. You could die cut the pieces from different colored cardstock, or cut from white cardstock and add color with markers, watercolor, or ink blending. I chose to cut everything from white and ink blend using PURE Color Dye Inks. I went with blending brushes to cover larger areas and then used the smaller Bitty Bunny Blending Brushes for smaller detailed areas.
For the Tulips I ink blended Wild Mango, Sweet Nectar, and Gala Red. For the Hydrangea, I wanted to go with complimentary colors to the orange and yellow, so I opted for blues and purples. For that, I chose Bo Beep blended into Cockleshell. For the leaves, I went with a mix of different greens – Beanstalk into Last Leaf, Mojito into Siren Song, and Appletini for the ferns. The Eucalyptus is a blend of Sea Spray, Lake House and Fairy Dust.
Once I had all of my greenery and flowers assembled, I arranged them into a bouquet. I really wanted to showcase how beautiful and grand these are. The bouquet would have fit nicely onto a 5×7 card, but I noticed that when I placed it on a slimline card it made the bouquet look even larger and more grand. The narrower base really allowed the bouquet to fill the card front from edge to edge. Of course this meant I had to trim off the excess from the sides, but it ended up giving the card the feeling of a macro shot of a bouquet. And I’m in love with it! Don’t be afraid to try out different card sizes, even with larger elements.
What do you think? I think the florals really sing on the narrow slimline base. I finished off the card with the Thinking of You Big Time stamp and die, also from Honey Bee. The large scale of the sentiments goes so well with the images!
I hope you enjoyed today’s project. I can’t wait to play with more of this series, so be on the lookout for that! If there are any sets from the series you’d like to see me use, be sure to leave it in the comments below. As always, thank you for dropping by. I hope you are having a great weekend!

A real STUNNER!!!!!

It kind of happened by accident. I was trying to decide whether to create a background or leave it white. I grabbed the closest piece of cardstock to me at the time, which happened to be a slimline panel. I was like, “hey, that looks pretty good!” LOL
