Layering Embossing Powders for Sparkle and Shine

I’ve got a fun one to share with you today! Color? Check. Sparkle? Check. Shine? Check. This one has it all, a little mixed media paired with a very graphic layout. What’s not to love?

This one was so fun to create and quite easy as the steps are pretty repetitive. I started by creating that gorgeous rainbow background. I used Distress Inks and a blending foam tool to cover an entire Distress Watercolor card stock panel. Then I added plenty of water using a water brush. I don’t usually use a water brush, but for this technique I do prefer it. I just squeeze some water from the brush and start moving the color around on the paper. It’s easy to just give the barrel of the water brush another squeeze when I want more water. I allowed this to dry, and then came back in and did a little watermarking by splattering water onto the background and then lifting the wet spots with a paper towel. For that little bit of extra something-something, I added more splatter using water mixed with Perfect Pearls.

The focal image of the card was created using our Postage Layers Die. I die cut several of the hearts from ink blended and watermarked backgrounds in rainbow colors. I covered them in Versamark and heat embossed them using WOW! Clear Sparkle embossing glitter. Then I added another layer of Versamark and heat embossed them using Ultra Thick Embossing Powder by Ranger. Layering the embossing powders like this gave me a fun sparkle trapped under a thick, glass-like coating. LOVE! I repeated those steps for each heart.

I wanted to create a sheet of heart postage stamps and the 1″ postage stamp die from Postage Layers is perfect for this. I cut them from white card stock and used the same embossing glitter on each. I love how both elements share the same sparkle, but one is textured and the other smooth, with a high gloss finish. I arranged the stamps side by side to resemble a sheet of stamps and adhered them to a panel of vellum. The hearts were added using thin foam adhesive.

You can really see just how glossy and reflective those hearts are in the photo above. I finished it off with a high contrast “with love” sentiment from Flaura & Fauna 3. I heat embossed it in white onto black card stock and die cut it using the companion die. I am a huge fan of black and white paired with rainbow. It just really makes the color sing! Everything was adhered onto a standard A2 (4.25 x 5.5″) card base, ready to brighten someones day!

I hope you enjoyed today’s card, and as always, thanks for stopping by!
