Two-For-One: Using the Positive & the Negative

Hello Creatives! Today I have a pair of cards for you featuring the new Lots of Love Die paired with some oldie, but goodies. They also use one of my favorite techniques of using the positive and the negative of a die cut.

I started by cutting 1/4″ strips of different card stock. I used one of the assorted color packs from The Stamp Market. I adhered them in rainbow-ish order to a thin piece of card stock that I then die cut the “lots of LOVE” shadow die from. I cut the “lots of Love” sentiment from white and adhered that to the rainbow striped shadow.

To create the background, I pulled out our Conversation Bubbles Die and die cut a bunch of them from white and adhered them in a pattern to a white 4 x 5 1/4″ panel. I opted to adhere them flat, keeping the bulk to a minimum, but still providing texture. I wanted to pull in the color from the sentiment, so I cut a bunch of hearts – also included in the Lots of Love Die – from the same colors of card stock and adhered them with liquid adhesive. I had a few larger hearts left over from another card using the Lots of Love Background Die, so I included them in the larger conversation bubbles.

Finally, I wanted to add a bit of sparkle. I was initially going to add a bit of shimmer pen to the hearts, but instead decided to add it bolder silver sparkle to the sentiment. I die cut the “love” sentiment from white and then used WOW! Metallic Platinum Sparkle embossing powder. Because the sentiments are the same scale, I was able to just adhere the silver “love” right over the white “lots of LOVE” sentiment. I adhered the panel to a blush standard A2 card base.

After finishing the card, I had the leftover striped background with the negative of my sentiment and decided to use it for another card. I die cut another shadow from white and inset back into the negative space. I had a watercolor background of a graduated watercolor wash that I had created and noticed how beautifully the pinks and oranges matched the colors of cardstock. So I decided to die cut the “lots of LOVE” sentiment from it. LOVE!

Again, I chose to utilize some of the leftover hearts I had and scattered them around the sentiment. For the background, I grabbed our Chevron Impression Plate. It’s hard to see the texture in these photos without bringing the whites down too much, but it’s there in real life and adds just the right amount of interest to the background!

Thanks for stopping in, I hope these cards inspired you to create something today! I have a few super fun and bright cards coming your so make sure to check back soon.
