No-Line Coloring with Kelly

Hello Crafters! I’ve been on a clean and layered kick lately and today’s card follows that same vein. Not like that is entirely different for me anyway.

No-line coloring, though? That’s scary business.

However, I find that every time I muster up the courage to try it, the result is usually worth the time it takes me to create it. I always learn a little bit more during the process. And that’s what it’s all about, right? Learning.

Purple is not this girl’s favorite color, but I can’t make every flower pink so I switched it up. This purple copic combination is one that I really do love. The contrast between the lightest color, V01, and the darkest color, V09, really helps to make sure my flower doesn’t become a blob without any black lines to structure it.

While I didn’t stamp my images in black, I did stamp them in a slightly darker ink than most people use for no line coloring. I chose Silver Lining because I knew the cool gray would blend well with the purple. I stamped and masked the floral images symmetrically. Which is just a fancy way to say whatever I stamped in one corner I stamped in the other. If you have trouble creating floral arrangements, this is a no-fail way to create balance.

Originally, I intended to have the flowers flat and in the middle I would pop up the elongated hexagon from the Onward and Upward die set. However, when I looked at it, I wasn’t in love. Instead I decided to trim out the floral swag I created so I could rearrange them over the top of the hexagon shape. I also added the Stitched Ironworks Background to my base to create some more interest. I used a small piece of purple glitter paper to create some separation between the white on white.

Here’s a close up of the shimmer on the flowers and that beautiful stitching creating by the Ironworks die in the background. I also love the addition of the little purple heart after the sentiment. I think it really ties it into the rest of the card.
