Stretching a Design ft. My Whole Life

Mother’s Day is one of those occasions when we have multiple people to celebrate at once. That means we will be creating several special cards, which can be time consuming. This is where semi-mass production comes in handy. I say “semi” because we don’t necessarily want to give them all the same card. Especially if they will be together when receiving them.

We want each card to feel as unique and special as the wonderful woman receiving them. Luckily, with a few tweaks you can easily stretch the same design to create unique cards for each person. All of the cards in today’s post started with the same basic oval wreath stamped using our new My Whole Life stamp set.

Featured Products: My Whole Life stamps and dies and Basic Labels stamps and dies.

I used the Mini MISTI to stamp my oval wreath on several white card panels. Using the MISTI, I was able to stamp an element, rotate the cardstock 180 degrees and stamp again. I then swapped out the card panel for a new one and repeated the process. Once all card panels were stamped, I placed another element and again, repeated the process. I did this until all of the main elements were stamped.

For the leaves, small flowers and detail layers of the large flowers, I just used an acrylic block and hand stamped those assembly style. I lined all of the panels up and went down the line stamping each element onto each panel. This was really quick and easy and took about 30 minutes to stamp out 5 panels.

For four of the cards I used the following Wplus9 PURECOLOR Inks:

With all of the panels complete, it was time to personalize them and make them unique. The sentiment for the first card was heat embossed in gold onto a stamped and die cut label using the Basic Labels stamps and die. The oval shape was perfect for my wreath and just the right size to house the sentiment included in My Whole Life.

Before adhering anything, I die cut the entire panel using the Gift Card Layers Die, creating a faux stitched edge.

Add dimension to a flat design by selectively “popping up” elements.

I stamped and die cut a couple of extra flowers and adhered them on top of the sentiment label for a little extra dimension. A few sequins and crystals complete the card.

For the next version, I kept the card completely flat, which makes it the perfect candidate for mailing. I used the same die to create the faux stitched edge as the previous card and again, heat embossed the sentiment in gold – this time directly onto the panel.

Heat embossing adds dimension without creating bulk, keeping the cards postal friendly.

For another version of this card, I trimmed the wreath panel down to 4 x 5.25″. I masked off the bottom half of the sentiment and stamped just the first half directly onto the wreath panel in V.I.Pink. The second half of the sentiment is stamped on the inside of the card.

I adhered the panel to a Cashmere card base with foam adhesive and finished it off with a few sequins and Clear Round Drops.

Don’t be afraid to “split” a large sentiment to fit your design. Stamp the rest of the sentiment on the inside of the card.

The next card uses two panels that were stamped identically, meaning I used the MISTI to stamp every image for both panels. I trimmed down one of the panels using our 4 Bar Stitched Rectangles Die and adhered it on top of the other panel with foam tape.

I stamped half of the sentiment from My Whole Life (using the same technique as above) onto an oval from the Basic Labels Die and added “mom” from the Family Sentiments stamp set. Again, I used a few sequins and jewels to finish it off.

Finally, since I had a basic design that I obviously really loved, I decided to swap out the color palette too. I used the following colors:

I die cut the center from the stamped wreath panel and inserted a stamped and die cut label from the Basic Labels stamp and die. Again, I masked the second half of the sentiment and heat embossed it in white, and stamped the second half of the sentiment on the inside of the card.

Next time you’re stuck between two versions of a card, why not do both? And a few more while you’re at it!

Thanks for stopping by, I hope you’re having a great day!
