Winter Cards with Caly Person

Hi, Friends! This is Caly again!  I was a guest here on Monday and I’m happy to be joining you again!  I loved the new release so much that I had to create a couple more projects to share with you!  And by the looks of it, you all really enjoyed it too! Most of the release is currently sold out. But do not worry, there is more on the way and anticipated by the end of the month. I adore the new Winter Sparrow stamp and die set and used many of the elements on this set to create today’s card.

I love that there’s a variety of foliage and flowers to coordinate with the sparrows on this set so I took my time stamping each.  For the large pine branches and sparrows, I took my time adding shade and different colors by using a small finger dauber to add/remove/blend ink to give them extra interest and color.

For my background, I ink-blended Tea Dye and Seedless Preserves Distress Oxide Ink at a diagonal – fading into the natural white of my cardstock panel.   For some light texture, I splattered some water to remove some of the ink.  I like to trim down my panel after ink-blending to clean up the edges and to matte my cardbase.

Don’t be afraid to blend complimentary colors. The trick to blending complimentary colors without getting “muddy”, is not to blend them in equal parts. Choose one of the colors as the dominant color and use the other color sparingly at the blend point.

Before adhering my images to create my card, I first stamped my sentiment in the upper right hand corner of my card using dark brown ink.  Then starting with my smaller cluster of flowers/foliage, I adhered them to my card in the lower bottom left and then arranged my other images to fill the card panel for my winter sparrow scene.

To bring in some old with the new, I’ve watered colored the beautiful Christmas Rose Bouquet today using Daniel Smith watercolors.  I stamped my image with Antique Linen Distress Ink to do some no-line watercoloring for this card.

I used the following Daniel Smith watercolors:  Permanent Rose, Carbazole Violet, Quinacridone Rose, Sap Green, Undersea Green.

After watercoloring, I also watered down some Sap Green ink and watercolored around the image to give it a further antique-feel.

My sentiment is die-cut from the new Peace Banner Die.  I used gold sparkle cardstock for the word and die-cut the halo from vellum cardstock for a soft look.  I added the banner but left it blank as an accent piece.  Before adhering it to my card, I gathered some gold thread to give it additional sparkle and finished off my card with some clear confetti sequins.

I hope you enjoyed my projects today!  Thanks so much for stopping by!
