Hexagon Gatefold Card w/Janette Kausen

Happy day to you, friends! Janette Kausenhere, guesting with Wplus9 today. I’m sharing a simple and fun gatefold card featuring bold color and the My Whole Life stamp set. Would you believe this is the first gatefold I’ve ever made?! It’s true, or at least I think it is… I’ve slept recently so no promises! No need to be intimidated, though. They aren’t difficult – I’ve just been lazy!

Create striking contrast by using and two colors of card stock with the Wplus9 Hexagon Gatefold Die.

Begin by snipping the two Hexagon Gatefold Die sections apart. Lay the solid hexagon shaped side, cut side down, vertically on a vertical white A2 (4 1/4” x 5 1/2”) cardstock panel. Align the metal solid hexagon section of the die to the right edge of the cardstock. The tips of the vertical cut line will extend just slightly above and below panel. If you are working on a mat with a grid, align top and bottom for a perfectly straight cut. Repeat with hexagon border die on black cardstock.

Use negative from black outline hexagon die cut in previous step to mask over left side of white hexagon on the first die cut panel. Mask remainder of white hexagon with a postie note or scrap paper. Stamp Wood Planks in PURECOLOR Fairy Dust Ink over remaining exposed white panel.

The sentiment from My Whole Life is perfect for any family member older than you.

Stamp My Whole Life sentiment in PURECOLOR Black Ink on a new A2 white cardstock panel. Stamp black flower outline images from same set. Use coordinating solid images to fill flowers with bright, bold colors like PURECOLOR Cranberry Crush and Queen Bee Ink. Fill leaves with aptly named PURECOLOR Last Leaf Ink. Die cut flowers and leaves. Adhere a small flower and a leaf set flat to interior sentiment section of card.

Featured Products: Wplus9 Hexagon Gatefold Die and My Whole Life stamps and die.

Vertically score and fold both the white and black panel at 2 1/8” away from the vertical die cut lines. Adhere to back of sentiment panel matching folds to panel edge. Adhere an additional A2 white cardstock panel over back to render attached flaps invisible.

With a little creative masking, you can easily adjust sentiments and punctuation to fit your custom sentiments.

Interlock white hexagon into black frame hexagon. Attach die cut flowers with dimensional adhesive. Stamp message in black with Family Sentiments set. I modified the punctuation, by masking, to create a comma instead of an exclamation point, with a .7 Copic Multiliner pen.

Thank you for joining me today, and, thank you to the Wplus9 family for inviting me to another adventure into creativity! I hope you’ve been inspired and I’ll see you again!

I was excited at the thought of using this die to make graduation cards. As I tried this morning to get started, I realized I am in need of more detailed tips how to assure the proper alignment of each side of the gatefold. My first attempt did not work out so well! Any helpful hints will be appreciated! Thank you.

Is there a link to a video yet? I followed the instructions above and the cuts did not connect properly to form an A2 sized card. I was able to modify the size of the card bases to get them to link up properly but it would be helpful to have some official details about how to modify the bases or to understand what the finished card size is expected to be.
