The Positive & The Negative

Hello Crafters, Kelly here! We made it to the weekend ya’ll. Hallelujah!

Today I have a two for one for you. I love that large background dies pretty much guarantee you the opportunity to make two cards out of one piece of cardstock. Added bonus, they can be as similar or as different as you want.

My two cards are both for Mother’s day for my sisters so I wanted them to look like sisters

I started by die cutting the Ironworks Background out of white cardstock. I made sure to save both the positive and all the negatives.

Stretch your supplies by using the negative pieces from a background die to create a fun dimensional background.

I used the positive piece and some reposistionable adhesive to act as stencil while I adhered lots of little foam pieces to the openings. There’s definitely a less time consuming way to do this but I used what I had on hand. After all the foam pieces were on I began adding the negative die cute like a puzzle. It actually didn’t take too long. Between the foam pieces and the puzzle piecing I think it took me about 20 minutes. This is a great use of pieces that would otherwise end up in the trash.

White on white backgrounds add just the right amount of interest to a background without competing with the focal point.

I then carefully removed the positive piece and adhered it flat to another white card base. I know white on white won’t be for everyone, but I love how it adds interest without distracting from my floral focal points.

I stamped my flowers, leaves, and banner in copic safe ink and then got coloring my with Copic markers. This time around I wanted to show you guys that you can color what appears to be more complex stamps really simply and still get a gorgeous result. For these flowers I just added lines of color. No flicking or fancy blending. Be sure to watch the video, it’s easier than it seems, I promise.

I really love how both cards came out and I sure do hope my sisters love them (and their candy too!)

Popping up the negative pieces with foam adhesive creates a dramatic impact.

Here you can see all the dimension popping up those negative pieces gives. It’s a little bit of time for a really big impact!

Thanks for stopping by, I hope you have a great weekend!
