New Home w/Joni

Hello Everyone! This is Joni, and I’m here sharing my take on the New Home stamp set and New Home Die. I really enjoyed using this set and I know you would too.

There are so many fun images in this set for creating a front door or porch scene, and it is scaled so that it can be used on a portrait or landscape card. You could even use the bench in the set along with some of the flower images to create a little park scene!

And when you add the companion die, well it makes putting together a scene card a breeze…no need to mask!

I decided to go with the more obvious design today. The images in this set have just enough detail, but not so much that it becomes overwhelming. If you are a skilled colorist, you’ll have a ball making them your own, but you don’t need to be a skilled colorist to bring them to life. I wanted to show just how quickly this card can come together.

I started with my background by distressing a white cardstock panel cut to 4.25 x 5.5″ using Tim Holtz Distress Oxide Inks in Peacock Feathers and Walnut stain. Walnut Stain has a bit of orange in it, which is the opposite color of blue. When orange and blue mix, they tend to turn quite muddy. By leaving a gap of white between the two, it keeps the colors clean and vibrant.

Leaving a gap of white between these two colors prevents them from overlapping and becoming muddy.

A few splatters of water onto the ink blended background creates some texture and variance in the color. Distress Oxide Inks react with water and create this fun mottled look.

Next, I stamped the images I wanted to use onto white cardstock, colored them with Copic markers and die cut them out.

I did very simple coloring here, blending some areas and leaving some areas unblended for interest. The door image is large, but because most trim on houses is white, the coloring isn’t intimidating. Although, you could color your trim any color you wanted for fun, why not?

Using the New Home Die to cut out your colored images makes creating a scene super fast and easy, no need for masking when stamping!

The sentiment was stamped onto black cardstock and heat embossed in white. I arranged my scene and adhered each piece with foam tape onto my ink blended panel.

I hoped you liked my take. Until next time….happy crafting!
