Spring Florals & Blue Bird Cutting Dies

These dies single handedly brought me out of my creative slump. As I mentioned yesterday, I was feeling completely overwhelmed with everything going on and had the hardest time getting into the mood to create.

So, I decided to just start die cutting. Easy. No thought. Just a bunch of colored card stock and the Spring Florals and Blue Bird dies. I pulled out some Wplus9 basics and a bunch of Gina K. Designs cardstock in assorted colors and went to town. Once I had everything die cut, I started sorting out groups of different color combinations.

For the first card, I chose a soft muted color palette. Spring Florals has several flower elements that you can use alone or layer to add multi-colored dimension. I went for soft contrast on some and a more stark contrast on others.

For the bird, even though it is the Blue Bird Die, by just switching up the colors, you can create whatever your imagination can come up with. For this little guy I chose Dove Grey for his chest and ink blended his cap and wing with Distress Oxide Ink in Gathered Twigs.

I wanted to keep all of the focus on on the florals and bird here, so I opted for a subtle background. I used our new Lavinia Layers Background die to emboss with instead of cutting it. This is easy to do by using the embossing sandwich instead of the cutting sandwich in your die cutting machine.

I just love how elegant this card looks, and honestly, how easily it came together. For the sentiment, I used our new The Little Things stamp set.

For the next card, I used the base layer of the Lavinia Layers Background die. I die cut it from white cardstock. I then lined the die back up over the die cut and held it in place to use as a mask while I ink blended the center area in Wplus9 PURE Color Bo Peep dye ink. This created a perfect halo for my focal point.

I decided to create a wreath of vibrant pinks and purples. Purple has always felt like an Easter color to me, and quite honestly not a color I usually gravitate towards. But something about this particular color combination is really speaking to me. Especially that lilac paired with the deep eggplant and lime green!

For the sentiment, I chose Easter Blessings from the Spring Blessings stamp set and paired it with the banner from the Peace Banner die. The sentiment was the perfect place to perch this chubby little bird.

This time I chose a softer contrast and color for my bird to offset the bold colors of the wreath. I cut the bird from Dove Grey card stock and did a little ink shading around his belly with Distress Oxide Ink inGathered Twigs and ink blended is cap and wing with Distress Oxide Ink in Antique Linen.

If you’re looking for some quick and easy cards, die cuts are perfect. Especially florals. Check your stash and see what you have, just die cutting them and putting together color combinations can sometimes be just the thing to spark that creativity!

Dawn, these beauties are what drew me to your site. I can’t remember how I stumbled upon them but after a big gasp, I’ve been checking you out ever since. To me your designs are THAT beautiful. The last few purchases I’ve made from different companies have included many stand alone dies. I’m a stamper at heart, so I also love your Spring stamps and dies. But for those of us who are coloring “challenged” (or not) your stand alone dies in this latest release are simply STUNNING! 😊💖
